James Thomson (* 1852 in Edinburgh , † 1927 in Dundee ) was a Scottish engineer and architect .

After training in Edinburgh, he moved to Dundee. There he was appointed city architect in 1906 and was responsible for the construction of several public buildings, such as the Caird Hall , the Blackness Library (1906), and the Ward Road Museum (1911). His proposal for a bypass road for the place was well ahead of its time. His plan for a bank promenade with a market hall and roof garden was also not implemented at the time. In 1924 he retired.
