James Vander came
James Claire VanderKam (born February 15, 1946 ) is an American theologian; he holds the John A. O'Brien Professorship in Theology at the University of Notre Dame , Indiana . His main field of work is the Dead Sea Scrolls .
After graduating from college (1968) and graduating from theology seminar (1971), both in Grand Rapids , Michigan , he graduated from Harvard University in 1976 . In the same year he became an assistant professor of religion at North Carolina State University , then an associate professor in 1981 and a full professor in 1986. In 1996 he followed a call to the University of Notre Dame as Professor of Hebrew Scriptures. In 1998 he took over the John A. O'Brien Chair at the same university.
VanderKam is a member of the Editorial Committee of the Dead Sea Scrolls and has edited twelve volumes of the Discoveries in the Judaean Desert . He is one of the two editors ( editor-in-chief ) of the Encyclopedia of the Dead Sea Scrolls published in 2000 . He is also a member of the editorial board of Dead Sea Discoveries .
