Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo ( Tib. 'Jam dbyangs mkhyen brtse'i dbang po , Tibetan འཇམ་ དབྱངས་ མཁྱེན་ བརྩེའ ི་ དབང་ པོ; born 1820 in Derge ; died 1892) was an important master of Tibetan Buddhism . His training began in the Sakya tradition, later he received instruction from many great teachers from all major Buddhist school traditions in Tibet.

Founding of the Rime movement

Together with the masters Jamgön Kongtrül Lodrö Thaye and Orgyen Choggyur Lingpa , he founded the Rime movement . In Tibet, Rime became the epitome of a cross-school, ecumenical perspective, which set itself the goal of overcoming the sectarian tendencies of the different schools to divide and save many rare lines of transmission from decline.

In this context, the masters of this movement collected all the teachings of the various schools and lineages and transmitted them to their students.

Activity as Tertön

Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo was also one of the so-called " Five Great Tertön Kings ", one of the most important discoverers of the spiritual teachings hidden by Guru Rinpoche and his closest disciples in the 8th and 9th centuries.

Subsequent reincarnations

According to the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, the famous masters Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö (1896-1959) and Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche (1910-1991) were incarnations of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo.
