Uta von Ballenstedt (* 1000 in Ballenstedt , † October 23 before 1046) from the House of Askanier was married to Margrave Ekkehard II. Of Meissen .

Life

She was a daughter of Count Adalbert von Ballenstedt and his wife Hidda, daughter of Margrave Hodo I (930-993) of the Saxon Mark Lausitz . Her brother Esico von Ballenstedt is the progenitor of the Ascanians. Her father married her to the Meissen Margrave around 1026 for reasons of power politics. The marriage remained childless. With Ekkehard II the line of Ekkehardines ended .

After the death of her husband Ekkehard II in 1046, Uta's dowry fell partly to the Gernrode monastery , where her sister Hazecha had been elected abbess in 1044 at the latest , and to the empress Agnes .

As one of the founders of Naumburg Cathedral , the sculpture Uta von Naumburg , one of 12 donor figures , was dedicated to her alongside the figure of her husband in the west choir of the cathedral.
