Hermann Laundry

Hermann Laundry (born May 21, 1850 in Großpaschleben ; † November 27, 1926 in Zerbst ) was a German historian , archivist and dialect poet who was very close to his home town of Anhalt .

Hermann Waschke was the fifth of six children of the Waschke family, Großpaschleben, Köthen district , No. 47 (today's Hermann-Waschke-Straße in Großpaschleben). Coming from a humble background - his father was a farm worker - he nevertheless graduated from the Ludwigsgymnasium in Köthen , later studied philology in Leipzig and received his doctorate in 1875 with "De crasi Aristophanea ". phil.

From 1875 on he was a teacher, first in Dessau and from 1882 in the Zerbst high school " Francisceum ", took over the management of the ducal house and state archive in Zerbst from 1901 and advanced there to the secret archives council . In 1907 he created a festival on the occasion of the 900th anniversary of the city of Zerbst, which was performed in the same year. On April 1, 1925, Hermann washke retired.

On 14 May 1925, the city appointed him Zerbst honorary citizen "was for meritorious work for the benefit of the town Zerbst for his life's work as a freeman of the town Zerbst honored Privy Council on Archives Professor phil. Hermann Laundry ". He died on November 27, 1926 at 5.45 p.m. in Zerbst, at No. 9 Biaser Strasse. He left no children behind.

In addition to his teaching activities, he was active as a writer and edited numerous publications . These include festivals and plays as well as translations and publications on the history of Anhalt. His “Paschlewwer Jeschichten”, where he presents customs and traditions in the dialect of his native Anhalt in an entertaining way, are particularly well known .
