Jan Bloemendal
January Bloemendal (* 23. June 1961 ) is a Dutch classical scholar and Neo-Latin philologist and Niederlandist and theologian.
Life
After studying classical philology, Dutch studies and theology at the University of Utrecht , Bloemendal first worked as a teacher in Amersfoort . In 1997 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on Daniel Heinsius ' tragedy Auriacus, sive Libertas saucia ( Oranje or wounded freedom ). Between 2000 and 2005 he worked at the Huygens Instituut voor Nederlandse Geschiedenis (Huygens ING) on an annotated edition of the Poeticae Institutiones by Gerardus Johannes Vossius . From May 2004 he was project manager of the research project Latin and Vernacular Cultures funded by the Nederlandse Organizatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek at the Institut Griekse en Latijnse Talen en Culturen at the Universiteit van Amsterdam . Theater and public opinion in the Netherlands ca 1510-1625 . From 2006 to 2012 he held a professorship for neolatinism there. He then was a Senior Researcher at Huygens ING. Since the winter semester 2017/18 he has been employed as a private lecturer at the Ruhr University Bochum.
Work areas
Bloemendal works on Latin literature of the early modern period and in particular on the theater , poetics and reception of this period. He is also the secretary of the Dutch Erasmus edition.
