Jan Ignác František Vojta
Jan Ignác František Vojta (* before 1660; † before 1725) was a Czech doctor, violinist and composer of the Baroque.
Live and act
František Vojta, a contemporary of Beaver , attended the Saint Wenceslas Jesuit seminary in Prague's old town. At the University of Prague he first studied philosophy and received the title of Doctor of Medicine on June 26, 1684. Vojta was the family doctor of the Benedictine monastery of St. Nikolas in Prague. During his lifetime he was considered one of the most popular violinists and composers in town. There is currently evidence of 27 works, of which only seven have so far been discovered. They are in the libraries of Brno, Prague, Vienna and the Codex Rost in Paris. Vojta's sonatas are considered to be the oldest examples of violin sonatas by a Czech composer.
Several of the sonatas were written for a chorded violin, a popular practice at the time that enabled expression, effects and desired moods. The suite, “Parthia amabilis” (1680) by “D. Woita ”, commented Franz Rost :“ The second violin has to be played on a brazzen for the sake of lovability ”.
In 2006 the Czech ensemble “La Gambetta” recorded all of Vojta's well-known instrumental and vocal works for the first time.
