Jan Kulík

Johannes Kulík (Jan Kuljk) (born January 14, 1800 in Domašín near Benešov , † May 5, 1872 in Prague ) was a Czech violin maker . He was the son of a master miller and the only student of Karel Šembera . From 1820 he worked for Martin Stoss in Vienna and started his own business in Prague in 1824.

At first he used the models of various Italian masters, in 1850 he bought a violin from Andreas Guarneri , which he then almost exclusively copied.

His instruments are flawlessly made, the snail nicely cut, the spirit varnish mostly golden brown or red.

He built the cellos according to a new model calculated by the engineer Leopold Savoi , which is noticeable for its small patron and very high frames .

He used various violin notes , in his last years also those in the Bohemian language, for example:
