Jan Plamper

January Plamper (* 1970 in Laichingen ) is a German historian and since 2012 professor of history at Goldsmiths College of the University of London . His research areas include Eastern European history , the history of emotions , the history of the senses and the history of migration .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1989 at the Uhland-Gymnasium Tübingen and the BA in history in 1992 at Brandeis University , he did a different service in the open work of the elderly at Memorial in St. Petersburg until 1994 with Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste .

In 2001 he received his doctorate in history with Yuri Slezkine at the University of California, Berkeley with a thesis on the personality cult of Josef Stalin . From 2001 to 2008 he was a research assistant to Dietrich Beyrau at the Institute for Eastern European History at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen , from 2008 to 2012 Dilthey Fellow of the Fritz Thyssen Foundation in Ute Frevert's research area History of Emotions at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin . Plamper was a scholarship holder at the Historisches Kolleg in Munich and a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin , Imre Kertész Kolleg Jena and Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald .

His study on the cult of images around Stalin, published under the title Alchimija vlasti , became a bestseller in Russia.
