Dietrich Beyrau

Dietrich Beyrau (born January 2, 1942 in Haselberg ) is a German historian .

Dietrich Beyrau was born in Haselberg in East Prussia (today Krasnosnamensk). From 1962 to 1970 he studied history and Slavic studies at the universities of Hamburg and Bonn . He received his doctorate in Bonn in December 1970 under Horst Jablonowski on The Origin of the German Empire and Russian Orient Policy 1866–1870 / 71 . From 1972 to 1980 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Eastern European History and Regional Studies at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In 1980 he completed his habilitation here with a thesis on the military and society in pre-revolutionary Russia 1700-1914 . Until 1982 he was a private lecturer in Tübingen, then until 1988 research assistant at the Research Center for Eastern Europe at the University of Bremen . In 1988 he was appointed Professor of Eastern European History at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , and in 1994 Professor and Director of the Institute for Eastern European History and Regional Studies at the University of Tübingen. In 2007 he retired.

The Russian State Humanities University in Moscow awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2007 .
