Jan Suchopárek (born September 23, 1969 in Kladno ) is a former Czech football player and current coach .

Career

Suchopárek started with Poldi Kladno , which he left in 1988 to do his military service with Dukla Prague . There the 1.84 m tall defender quickly became a regular player. From 1991 to 1996 he played for Slavia Prague , where he developed into one of the best defensive players in the Czech Republic.

Suchopárek made his international debut on September 25, 1991, he was also part of the Czech team at the 1996 European Championship . He then moved to Racing Strasbourg , where he was also one of the top performers. In 1999 Suchopárek had an offer from VfB Stuttgart and from the then second division tennis Borussia Berlin , for 1.25 million DM he moved to Berlin. Despite 23 appearances and one goal, the engagement was considered a failure, Suchopárek returned to his former club Slavia Prague in the summer of 2000 . But the now 31-year-old Libero was past his zenith, and had not been considered for the 2000 European Championship . In the first team he came to only 17 missions in three years, he was mostly used in the 3rd division in the B team.

For the 2003/04 season Suchopárek returned to his home club SK Kladno , which he helped to move up to the first division. In 2005 he ended his professional career, but he continues to play for the team where he lives in Družec . He is also the head of the youth division at SK Kladno and was also the coach of the local youth team in 2005/06.
