Jan Zurzycki

Jan (Adam) Zurzycki (born February 10, 1925 in Kraków ; † July 27, 1984 there ) was a Polish botanist.

His interest in science was aroused in the family. His grandfather was a highly educated farmer. His father Karol was a mathematician and high school teacher in Zarzyce.

Jan Zurzycki obtained his M.Sc. from the Jagiellonian University under F. Gorski in 1948. and in 1950 his Ph.D. At the same university he became associate professor in 1957 and full professor in 1971. He was also the director of the plant physiology department at the Institute for Molecular Biology. He is known for his research on the orientation movement of chloroplasts in cells.

In 1976 he was elected to the German Leopoldina .
