Jan von Wartenberg was a Bohemian nobleman who owned the Tetschen ( Děčín ) rule and had extensive influence in the southeastern Ore Mountains . On June 15, 1397 he was awarded the town of Küstrin by Sigismund of Hungary .

His sister Metze (Mathilde) was married to the noble Mr. Anarg von Waldenburg zu Wolkenstein . After he died, she was given the rule of Scharfenstein in the Zschopau valley on April 8, 1386 by Margrave Wilhelm I of Meißen as a personal commemorative property. Her brother Jan von Wartenberg appeared as her guardian in this legal transaction, who had to vow not to be against the Margrave of Meißen because of the Scharfenstein rule.
