Jana Tichá

Jana Tichá (* 1965 ) is a Czech astronomer .

Tichá studied at the Prague University of Economics , from which she graduated in 1987. Since 1992 she has held the post of director of the Kleť observatory . Jana Ticha specializes in the discovery and observation of asteroids and comets with emphasis on Near Earth Objects (NEOs) and is scientific director of the corresponding observation program, including the Klenot project (Klenot = Kle ť Observatory N ear Earth and o ther unusual Objects Observations T eam) . Under their leadership, the observatory experienced a fundamental modernization of the astrometric observation of these objects through the introduction of a CCD camera and modern computer technology. She works at the observatory together with her husband Miloš Tichý .

Jana Tichá was and is a member of a large number of international committees and commissions in the field of astronomy. For example, since 2003 she has chaired the Committee on Small Body Nomenclature (CSBN) of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), which is responsible for examining suggested names and naming asteroids.

By July 2007 she had discovered more than 50 asteroids, many of them together with her husband. The asteroid (5757) Tichá is dedicated to her. The asteroid (8307) Peltan was named after her family . The astronomer is also well known in the Czech Republic for her popular science activities. She is one of the main authors of the Czech internet service on the subject of asteroids and comets.
