Janan Sawa

Janan Sawa (* 1956 in Dohuk , Iraq ) is an Assyrian singer from Iraq.

He is a member of the Chaldean Catholic Church , an Eastern Church belonging to the Roman Catholic Church .

In 1972, at the age of 17, Janan Sawa began singing. From 1974 to 1978 he spent four years in the Iraqi army.

In 1980 Janan fled Iraq and settled in Greece for two years, from where he moved to the USA after only two years, where he still resides.

Career

In the USA, he first began to work as a taxi driver. Over time, he began singing in restaurants, where his career began. In 1985 he recorded an album for the first time in a recording studio called "Nohadra" ( Syrian-Aramaic welcher), which is the Syrian-Aramaic name for his hometown, Dohuk. This album sold very well among the Assyrians, which also increased its popularity. His songs were played at many Assyrian parties, especially at weddings.
