Jane Baxter

Jane Baxter (born September 9, 1909 in Bremen , † September 13, 1996 in London ; actually Feodora Kathleen Alice Forde ) was a British actress . During her career spanning more than fifty years, she appeared in numerous films and plays.

Life

Jane Baxter spent her early youth in Germany - her mother was German, her father Irish. When she was six years old, the family moved to England. Baxter attended the Italia Conti Academy there and made his debut as a street child in the musical Love's Prisoner in 1925 . In 1928 she played her first leading role in A Damsel in Distress , a stage version of PG Wodehouse's novel Die liebe Not with young women, adapted by Ian Hay . Two years later she played her first film role in Bed and Breakfast . In 1934 she shot with Richard Tauber Your is my heart (Blossom Time) . It was through this film that Hollywood became aware of Jane Baxter and she directed We Live Again (1934) and Enchanted April (1935) there. After these two films she returned to England and acted in several British films. In the early 1940s, Baxter ended her film career and focused on theater roles. In 1952 she played the leading role in the premiere of the stage version of Bei Call Mord . Until 1972 Jane Baxter appeared in plays in London and New York. She had her last public appearance in 1992 in the television documentary Missing Believed Lost , which dealt with supposedly lost films.
