Lavoslav Black
Lavoslav Schwarz (* 1837 in Zagreb ; † 1906 there ) was a Croatian-Jewish merchant and a historically important figure in the Zagreb Jewish community .
Life
Lavoslav Schwarz was born as the son of a Jewish merchant named Salomon or Saul in 1837 in the Croatian-Slavonian capital Zagreb.
Throughout his life, Lavoslav Schwarz was particularly distinguished by charity . He supported and founded Jewish and non-Jewish social institutions in Zagreb. On his initiative, the City of Zagreb and the Jewish Community of Zagreb awarded scholarships to students at public universities . The establishment of the first Jewish old people's home in Zagreb is significant for the Jewish community in Zagreb . The retirement home was opened in 1910 and is called "Dom Lavoslav Schwarz".
Lavoslav Schwarz died in Zagreb in 1906 at the age of 69.
