Jane Walerud

Jane Christine Walerud Boreta (born November 13, 1961 in USA ) is a Swedish entrepreneur and private investor . She was fifteen since 1999 start-up companies involved, including Klarna , Bluetail, Tobii Technology and Teclo Networks.

Life

Walerud was born in the United States and moved to Sweden at the age of 20 after meeting her future husband, Bengt. She studied cognitive psychology and computer science at Stanford University . Jane and Bengt Walerud have a daughter, Caroline, who is also the founder.

Professional background

From 1997, Walerud initially worked as a sales manager at Erlang Systems. In 1998 she left the company to co-found Bluetail, a Swedish internet start-up that developed all products in the Erlang programming language . It was sold to Alteon Networks for $ 152 million.

In 2004 she met Sebastian Siemiatkowski, one of the founders of the payment provider Klarna , and invested 60,000 euros in the start-up in return for a 10% stake in the company. She also introduced the founders to a programming team who helped build the platform for 37% of the company's shares.

In 2010 she and a new team founded Teclo Networks, which was based in Switzerland. Teclo developed a TCP technology to increase the speed of mobile broadband transmission. In 2016 Teclo Networks was sold to the Canadian company Sandvine.

In 2016, Jane Walerud founded the venture capital company Walerud Ventures with her husband Bengt and their daughter Caroline . The company's goal is to invest in start-ups with a focus on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and synthetic biology . In the same year, Walerud Ventures invested in an app for runners and cross-country skiers under the name WeMeMove (now Racefox). Jane Walerud is on the board of Racefox.

Honors

In 2014 she was honored with a gold medal by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering for her services. In 2015, Walerud was elected into the Swedish Startup Hall of Fame by SUP46. She is also part of the Swedish Government's Innovation Council. Also in 2015 she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Royal Technical University in Stockholm .
