Janice Riggle Huie

Janice Riggle Huie (born December 15, 1946 ) is a bishop of the United Methodist Church .

Life

After finishing school, Huie studied at the University of Texas . She then moved to the Perkins School of Theology , where she studied theology and achieved her master's degree . In 1989 she received her doctorate as Doctor of Divinity at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta. After graduating, she served as a pastor in Texas . In 1996 she was ordained bishop of the Arkansas Annual Conference , where she served until 2004. She has been the Bishop of the Texas Annual Conference since 2004. Until 2008, Huie was President of the Bishops' Council of the United Methodist Church. She has been succeeded by Bishop Gregory Palmer since 2008 .

Huie is married to Robert Huie and has two children.
