Janine Dacosta (born March 19, 1923 in Bordeaux ) is a French pianist.

life and work

Janine Dacosta first studied piano with Joseph Thibaud in her native Bordeaux. After receiving the Premier Prix at the Conservatory in Bordeaux, she studied at the Conservatoire National in Paris with Lazare Lévy and, after graduating with Yves Nat , also in Paris. She also studied with Ilonka Deckers-Küszler in Milan. Janine Dacosta won first prize for piano at the International Long Thibaud Crespin Competition in 1951 .

In 1961 Dacosta settled in the Netherlands and moved to Middelburg . In addition to her work as a concert pianist, she taught piano at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

Dacosta was also active in the field of chamber music. For several years she formed a duo with the violinist Theo Olof . Together with the pianist and organist Leen de Broekert (1949–2009) she founded a duo for four-hand piano with whom she recorded the works of Franz Schubert for four-hand piano on the Zefirrecords label.

Dacosta gave numerous concerts internationally. She was often heard on radio and television with her concerts. She has worked with conductors such as Charles Munch , Ferenc Fricsay , Willem van Otterloo , Rafael Kubelik , Eduard van Beinum , Eugen Jochum , Colin Davis , Edo de Waart , Anton Kersjes and David Zinman worked together.
