Janko Ogris

Janko Ogris (born October 31, 1898 in Köttmannsdorf , † December 8, 1981 in Ludmannsdorf ) was an Austrian politician ( Party of the Carinthian Slovenes ) and from 1933 to 1934 a member of the Carinthian state parliament .

Life

Ogris worked professionally as a merchant, innkeeper in the Gasthaus-Gostišče-Trattoria Ogris and as a cultural worker and was also municipal secretary of Ludmannsdorf between 1920 and 1938. In this role he participated as a co-initiator in the renewal of the cultural, economic and political life of the Carinthian Slovenes in the Rosental. Ogris wrote reports about his activities in this regard in the weekly newspaper "Koroški Slovenec" ("Carinthian Slovene"). Ogris was also involved in the "Koroška slovenska stranka" (Party of the Carinthian Slovenes) and ran for third place in the 1930 state elections . After Janez Starc left the state parliament in 1933, Ogris moved up as third party in the state parliament and was sworn in as a member of the state parliament on December 22, 1933. With the dissolution of the last, democratically elected state parliament in October 1934, Ogris's work in the state parliament also ended.

In addition to his political activities, Ogris also worked in the "Slovenska prosvetna zvez" (Slovenian Cultural Association), of which he was deputy director at the time of the Anschluss in 1938. He was subsequently arrested on April 7, 1941 and imprisoned for two months. In 1942, Ogris and his family were expelled to Germany. After the Second World War, Ogris returned to Carinthia and took part in the reconstruction of the Slovenian organizations. He was also the representative of the Carinthian Slovenes in the Carinthian Chamber of Agriculture from 1951 to 1956. In addition, he continued to be involved in the Slovenian Cultural Association, where he was deputy chairman and chairman of the control committee for many years.
