Janusz Stokłosa

Janusz Stokłosa (born May 15, 1954 in Rabka ) is a Polish pianist and composer .

He graduated from the Faculty of Music Theory and Music History at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow (1978). Stokłosa is the author of more than 150 scores of theater and film music. He made his debut at the Kraków STU theater with the music for the drama Pacjenci (German: patient) based on The Master and Margarita by Michail Bulgakow , directed by Krzysztof Jasiński (1976).

From 1984 to 1990 he was musical director of the Teatr Ateneum in Warsaw , where he created the plays Brel , Hemar and Wysocki together with Wojciech Młynarski and Janusz Józefowicz . From 1986 to 1991 he worked with Michał Bajor and gave concerts with him in many European countries, in the USA and Canada.

In 1991 he created the musical Metro , which was adapted, choreographed and directed by Józefowicz. This musical had spectacular success in the country and worldwide. Its American premiere took place on April 16, 1992 at the Minskoff Theater on Broadway.

So far more than 1200 performances have been given. For the music for the musical "Metro" Stokłosa was nominated for the Broadway Tony Award in the category of best theater score in the 1991/1992 season. In February 1994 the music of Metro was honored with a gold record , in November 1997 with a platinum record and on May 30, 1998 with a second platinum record.

In October 1992 he became chairman of the company " Studio Buffo ".
