Jared Lowell Miller

Jared Lowell Miller (* 1969 in Kelowna ) is a Canadian ancient orientalist .

Life

From 1987 to 1993 he studied English literature (major), theology and German at the Ambassador College , with a focus on linguistics, literary criticism and English literature of the 18th and 19th centuries and from 1995 to 1996 at Tel Aviv University , Lowy School for Overseas Students: Study course for the Middle East, Hebrew language courses, archeology of the Middle East. From 1996 to 1999 he obtained a master's degree in archeology and ancient oriental cultures (summa cum laude) at Tel Aviv University. The title of the master's thesis was The Expeditions of Hattusili I to the Eastern Frontiers: A Study in the Historical Geography and Internal Chronology of the Great King's Campaigns with the supervisor Itamar Singer . From 1999 to 2003 he completed his doctorate in ancient oriental studies (summa cum laude) at the University of Würzburg . The title of the doctoral thesis was Studies in the Origins, Development and Interpretation of the Kizzuwatna Rituals, evaluated opus eximium with the supervisors Gernot Wilhelm and Jörg Klinger . In 2003 he was a part-time research assistant at the Chair of Oriental Philology. From 2003 to 2008 he was a research assistant at the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz . From 2004 to 2008 he was visiting lecturer at the University of Mainz , Institute for Egyptology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies. Since 2008 he has been teaching as a professor for ancient oriental studies with a focus on ancient Anatolian studies at the University of Munich .

His main research interests are the history of Anatolia , Syria and northern Mesopotamia in the 2nd millennium, the history of religion and Hittite political and administrative documents.
