Jared Spool (born December 8, 1960 ) is an American writer , researcher, public speaker, educator and expert in the fields of usability , software , design and research. He is the founding director of User Interface Engineering, a research, training and consulting firm that specializes in the ease of use of websites and products.

Achievements and Awards

In 1996, under the direction of Spool, the UIE launched the User Interface Conference , an annual research and design conference on user experience, which he chairs and provides keynote speeches .

From 1998 to 2008, Spool, as an associate faculty member at Tufts University, developed and taught a unique curriculum for the Experience Design Management course at the Tufts Gordon Institute.

Spool gave the keynote presentations for The National Association of Government Webmasters, The National Association of Online Librarians, Higher Ed Webmasters, Agile 2009, South by Southwest Interactive, Web Advertising, Web Visions, the Usability Professionals Association, CHI (conference), den information architecture summit, UX Australia, UX Lisbon, UX London, Drupal Con 2011, An event Apart, Designing for People Amsterdam, UPA China, the Norwegian computer Society, the British computer Society , the Society for Technical Communication and the Federal webmaster Society held .

In 2011 the Stevens Award was given to Spool, "whose silent evangelization of the usability and practical outcomes of methods and tools has had a profound impact on how we think about making systems effective".

Current activities

Spool spends his time with research teams, consults with organizations to help them better understand how to solve their design problems, and works with reporters and industry analysts on the design booth. In addition to his role as a speaker at more than 20 conferences a year, Spool speaks for various groups almost weekly.

Spool is also on the editorial board of Rosenfeld Media, a user experience publisher.

The "Center Center"

With the help of a successful campaign on Kickstarter.com , Jared and Dr. Leslie Jensen-Inman created the Center Center, "a new school for user experience design for adults".
