The Jartai Yanchi or Jilantai Salt Lake ( Chinese 吉兰泰 盐池 , Pinyin Jilantai yanchi or 吉蘭泰 鹽湖 , Jilantai yanhu ; English Jilantai Salt Lake / Jartai Salt Lake / etc.) is located in the west of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in the north of the People's Republic of China in the large community of Jilantai 吉兰泰 镇 of the Left Alxa Banner (阿拉善 左旗) of the Alxa Federation on the Inner Mongolia Plateau . There it is located in the Jartai Basin / Jilantai Basin ( 吉兰泰 盆地 , Jilantai pendi ) on the Alxa Plateau (Alashan gaoyuan 阿拉善 高原), on which there are many salt lakes.
Its area is 120 square kilometers, the salt layer is up to five meters thick. It is a chloride salt lake.
The Chilantaisaurus is named after the lake.
