Jastrebac ( Serbian Јастребац ) is a mountain range west of the city of Niš and about 20 kilometers southeast of the town of Kruševac in Serbia . The main ridge of the Jastrebac extends in a west-east direction. The mountain range consists of the Great Jastrebac ( Veliki Jastrebac ) in the west and the Small Jastrebac ( Mali Jastrebac ) in the east. The mountains are mostly forested.

The highest peaks in the mountain group are Velika Đulica at 1,492 meters, Pogled at 1,481 meters, Zmajevac at 1,313 meters and Bela Stena at 1,257 meters. The highest point of the Little Jastrebac is the Kupinjak with a height of 946 meters.

At a height of 480 meters there is a small, artificially dammed lake, on which several hotels are located. Another reservoir is located on the south side of the mountain range above Prokuplje .

The Ribarska Banja thermal baths are located on the northeast side of Jastrebac ( 43 ° 25 ′ 32 ″  N , 21 ° 30 ′ 25 ″  E ).

geology

The Great Jastrebac is essentially made up of two layers, which can be found vertically in a chronology contradicting order, that is, the younger layer is at the bottom. This consists of hardly or only moderately metamorphic overprinted rock, which was deposited during the Upper Cretaceous and the Cretaceous- Paleogene transition. Granite is embedded in it , possibly from the Vardar zone. Above it is a mighty thrust consisting of metamorphic rock from the Serbian-Macedonian mass.
