The Jati-Matic is a submachine gun from Finland .
technology
The aim of the development was to create a weapon that was as light, compact and at the same time easily controllable as possible. A major problem with submachine guns is the tendency that, in the event of bursts of fire, the muzzle climbs and the weapon breaks out of the target line. This happens because the direction of the recoil impulse is above the handle and each shot lever the weapon a little upwards. A common method of reducing this is to use muzzle compensators, which deflect the muzzle flash in a manner that counteracts movement of the muzzle. A different approach has been devised for this weapon. The core axis of the barrel and the path of the breech are not on a line, but at an angle to each other. The weapon looks kinked when viewed from the side.
On the one hand, this has the effect that when the shot is fired, the impulse is aimed precisely at the grip, which makes it easier to control the weapon during continuous fire. On the other hand, the shutter now has to move up a ramp, which delays it a little. As the cadence is reduced, the controllability of this very light MPi also improves. The breech is hollow and surrounds the barrel, as is the case with the Uzi . This enables a short overall length and means that moving parts are only slightly displaced away from the center of gravity of the weapon.
The cocking lever is located under the barrel. When folded, it secures the weapon, when folded it is used for loading and as a second handle. A selector lever for the fire mode is missing, single or continuous fire are released depending on the strength of the trigger pressure. A shoulder rest is also not available and cannot be retrofitted. Technically the Jati-Matic is quite interesting, but commercially it has been a complete failure. The Finnish military rejected the weapon and no international buyers could be found. The production was therefore stopped after a small series of a few hundred pieces.
