Career

Kastl played at least in the 1984/85 season in the state league at SK Lauf. There he was the top scorer in that season. He arrived in 1986 together with Dietmar Beiersdorfer from the SpVgg Fürth for Hamburger SV , in which he played in two years 37 games and in 1987 the German Cup won. In 1988 he moved to Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer fee of 2.5 million DM . The transfer fee was the second highest in Bundesliga history. He was active for Leverkusen in the 1988/89 season . He then played from 1989 for VfB Stuttgart . After winning the German championship in 1992 , he moved to SSV Ulm in 1846 . When he was in Stuttgart, he said he had received a well-paid offer from the English club Chelsea . However, he ended his professional career because of his mother's cancer.

In 1991 Manfred Kastl bought a hotel in Wolfschlugen , which he managed until it went bankrupt in 1995. Then he converted the hotel into a private retirement and nursing home, Haus Kastl . In September 2004, he was involved in a serious traffic accident in the Czech Republic , in which the driver of the car in which Kastl was a passenger was killed when the car crashed into a tree. Kastl himself suffered multiple fractures and was in a coma for 17 days. Since then he has been severely disabled with a GdB of 80.

In March 2008 the nursing home had to file for bankruptcy, in the same month Kastl went into private bankruptcy . In June 2012 it was reported that he was living on unemployment benefits at the time. Kastl is also a passionate poker player and can often be seen on DSF and Das Vierte , where he has also played victoriously in live tournaments.

From May 2013 to October 2013 Kastl was the soccer department manager at SK Lauf.
