Jaume Ferrer

Jaume Ferrer was a Mallorcan explorer and captain of the 14th century.

Life

He was the captain of a ship expedition that set out from the port of Palma on August 10, 1346 . The expedition pursued the goal of the coast of West Africa and to explore possible gold deposits . Ferrer advanced to the mouth of the Niger before later Portuguese and Genoese expeditions . His seafaring is noted on the Catalan World Atlas from 1375 .

Ferrer also drove as a captain on merchant ships between Mallorca and ports in Flanders as well as to destinations in the Mediterranean such as ports in Sicily and Genoa.
