Jayati Ghosh (* 1955 ) is an Indian economist .

Ghosh is a professor at the Center for Economic Studies and Planning at the School of Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi , India . She specializes in globalization , world economy , working patterns in developing countries , macroeconomics , gender and development.

In 1984 she completed her PhD at the University of Cambridge .

Ghosh takes an active part in the public debate about ways out of the climate crisis . She is one of the signatories of an open letter published in December 2018, in which politicians have failed to address the crisis and are called upon to join movements such as Extinction Rebellion and to refrain from consuming.
