Jean-Claude Fruteau

Jean-Claude Fruteau (born June 6, 1947 in Saint-Benoît on the island of Réunion ) is a French politician of the Parti socialiste (PS).

In 1972, Fruteau received the qualification to teach, the Agrégation for Philology and then worked as a professor at the top level. At PS he was first secretary in the Réunion department for almost twenty years . From 1983 to 1999 he was mayor of Saint-Benoît and also sat for many years on the general council of the département. From 1999 to 2007 he was a member of the European Parliament for the overseas departments . Since 2007 he has been a member of the Assemblée nationale for the fifth constituency of Réunion.
