Jean-François Guérin (born July 25, 1929 in Loches (Indre-et-Loire) , † May 21, 2005 in Blois (Loir-et-Cher) ) was a Catholic priest. He is the founder of the Sankt Martin community .

Life

After Jean-François Guérin was ordained a priest in 1955 by the Archbishop of Tours , Mgr. Louis-Joseph Gaillard , he was first vicar at the Cathedral of Tours for a few years and then pastor of the state schools in the same city. He was sent to Paris in 1965 to study canon law . Here he became a general representative of the French Œuvre d'Orient. A number of young people chose the priest, who regularly celebrated mass in the chapel of the Bon Secours sisters on rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs, as their spiritual guide. Some of them subsequently entered monasteries, men as well as women. In 1976 Guérin was called to Italy by the Genoese Cardinal Giuseppe Siri, together with some young men who were also secular priests and who wanted to share a community life . This is the founding act of the priestly community of Saint Martin. While the first seminarians were being trained in the seminary of Genoa, Abbé Guérin watched over their human, spiritual and pastoral maturation in the Capuchin convent Genoa-Voltri made available to them.

In 1993, after some French bishops had already entrusted offices to the community, Abbé Guérin returned to France: the Bishop of Blois had invited the community to settle with its mother and formation house in Candé-sur-Beuvron .

Until his resignation in 2004, Abbé Guérin held the position of general moderator of the community. He died on May 21, 2005.
