Jean-Guillain Cardon

Jean-Guillain Cardon (born January 18, 1732 in Mons , † October 18, 1788 in Versailles ) was a Belgian-French violinist and composer .

Life

Jean-Guillain Cardon worked for a short time in Brussels from 1753 and then for some time in Champagne before settling in Paris in 1761. There he changed his first name and called himself like his son, Jean-Baptiste. From 1764 he was violon ordinaire of the royal chapel of Versailles and from 1772 he was maître de violon of the Count of Provence, later King Louis XVIII. Cardon went blind and was exempt from his services from 1782 at a pension of 2,400 livres. Cardon published a treatise in 1786 under the title " Le rudiment de la musique, ou Principes de cet art à la portée de tout le monde, par questions et réponses ".

Several of the children born of Marie-Anne Petit's marriage became musicians. Was especially known Jean-Baptiste Cardon (1760-1803), known as the "first Harp Master ”of the imperial family worked at the court of Saint Petersburg . Further sons were the violinist, Louis-Stanislas Cardon (1761–1797) and Pierre-Hyacinthe Cardon (* 1769), cellist at the Concert spirituel and the Théâtre-Italien in Paris.
