from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jean-Louis Bergeret (born December 11, 1641 in Paris , † October 9, 1694 there ) was a French lawyer .

Bergeret studied both law at the university in his hometown. After graduating, he entered the civil service and worked as a lawyer in the parliament of Metz from 1672 . As such, he was a supporter of Charles Colbert, marquis de Croissy , the foreign minister of King Louis XIV.

When the Académie française was looking for a successor to the late philosopher Géraud de Cordemoy , it had to choose between Bergeret and the philologist Gilles Ménage . Since almost the whole Colbert family spoke out in favor of Bergeret , this was also chosen in 1684 ( Feuteuil 8 ). The cleric Charles Irénée Castel de Saint-Pierre succeeded Bergeret in 1695 in this place.
