Jean-Luc Ruty (born July 5, 1959 in Arbois ) is a former French football player and later coach .

Player career

When Ruty showed footballing talent in youth, he was accepted into the youth department of FC Sochaux . He was 19 years old when he made the leap into the first division team in 1978, for which he played regularly from the start; at the end of his first year as a professional, he became a regular player in external defense. At the end of the 1979/80 season he was with the team in second place, which was equal to the French runner-up; personally, he also made the leap into the French U-21 national team, even if he was denied the leap into the A selection of his country. Although he was able to keep his regular place and was on the field in all games of the league during the 1985/86 season, it was mainly the poor results of his club that made him turn his back on Sochaux after eight years in 1986.

In the same year Ruty signed with league rivals FC Toulouse , where he also received a place in the starting eleven. In addition to single-digit positions in the table, in his first two years for the new employer he achieved two consecutive participations in the European competition in which he had participated once with Sochaux. Similar to his ex-club, he had to accept slipping within the league, even if relegation never occurred; in addition, he was ousted in the course of time by the younger Jean-François Hernandez . In 1992, Ruty decided at the age of 32 after 391 top division games with five goals to end his career.

Coaching career

A year after retiring from his career, the former professional took over coaching responsibility for the second team in Toulouse in 1993. For a transitional period, he headed the first team in 1994 and then returned to the reserves, where he stayed until he moved to his ex-club Sochaux in 1999. At Sochaux he was designated as head of the training center for young players and was briefly coach of the first team in December 2007; In 2012 he became the coach of the club's second selection.
