Jean-Pierre Pelletier

Jean-Pierre Pelletier is a Canadian doctor who conducted research on the pathophysiology and therapy of arthritis .

Pelletier graduated from the University of Montreal with a degree in medicine in 1974 and a residency degree in internal medicine in 1978. From 1979 to 1981 he conducted research in rheumatology at the University of Miami with David Howell. From 1985 to 2000 he was director of the rheumatism and osteoarthritis department at the Medical Center of the University of Montreal (CHUM). With his wife Johanne Martel-Pelletier, also a professor at the CHUM, he heads the Osteoarthritis Research Unit there.

In 1980 he became a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

In 2010 he received the König Faisal Prize for Medicine with Johanne Martel-Pelletier and Reinhold Ganz . He received the Distinguished Scientist Award from the Canadian Rheumatological Association (CRA).
