Reinhold Ganz

Reinhold Ganz (born August 20, 1939 in Karlsruhe ) is a Swiss orthopedist of German descent .

From 1958, Ganz studied medicine at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau , Kiel , Berlin and Innsbruck . From 1964 he was an assistant doctor, initially at clinics in Münsterlingen , Lahr and Waldshut and from 1966 at the Pathological Institute of the University of Basel . From 1970 he was an assistant doctor and later a specialist in orthopedics at the University Clinic for Orthopedic Surgery at Inselspital in Bern . From 1981 until his retirement in 2004, Ganz was Medical Director of the University Clinic for Orthopedic Surgery and Full Professor of Orthopedics at the University of Bern , succeeding his teacher Maurice Edmond Müller . He has been a consulting professor there since 2004 , as well as at the Balgrist Orthopedic University Clinic from 2004 to 2007 .

Completely developed a surgical method ( Bernese Periacetabular Osteotomy , English Bernese Periacetabular Osteotomy ) for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the hip joint without an artificial hip joint.

In 2008 he received the Arthur Steindler Award of the Orthopedic Research Society and in 2010 he received the König Faisal Prize . He is President of the International Hip Society (IHS).
