Jean-Roland Malet (also: Mallet ; * in the 17th century ; † April 12, 1736 in Paris ) was a French financial historian and member of the Académie française .

life and work

Jean-Roland Malet was the son of a carpenter. He made a career in the financial administration of the king and rose to the closest collaborator of the finance minister Nicolas Desmarets (1648–1721, minister 1708–1715). In 1713 he wrote an ode to the king and, with the support of Desmarets, was elected to the Académie française (seat no. 40) in 1714. He kept his position under Desmaret's successors and wrote a history of French public finances since Henry IV in 1720 , which was only published in 1789 and which has recently been recognized as a unique historical document and prepared for research using modern methods.
