Jean-Xavier Lefèvre
Jean-Xavier Lefèvre (born March 6, 1763 in Lausanne , Switzerland ; † November 9, 1829 in Paris ) was a Swiss composer , music teacher and clarinetist .
At a young age he moved to Paris and spent most of his life there. He was a student of the most famous French clarinetist of the time, Michel Yost . After his death, Lefèvre was widely recognized as his successor. That is why he worked as a soloist in the most important orchestras and was in great demand. He was a member of the Paris Opera Orchestra from 1791 to 1817 . He also taught at the Paris Conservatory .
Lefèvre contributed to the further development of the clarinet by adding a C sharp / G sharp key as the sixth key to the then untrained fingering system in 1791. In terms of composition, he left works for wind instruments, often with clarinet as a solo instrument, and a whole series of compositions for harmony orchestra as revolutionary music.
