from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jean Céa (* 1932 in Algeria ) is a French mathematician who specializes in analysis, optimization and numerical mathematics.

Cea was born in Algeria as the son of naturalized French immigrants from Spain. He studied at the École Normale d'Instituteurs d'Oran and the École Normale Supérieure de Saint-Cloud. He received his doctorate from Jacques-Louis Lions in 1964 (Approximation variationnelle desproblemèmes aux limites). He was a professor at the University of Nice (Sophia Antipolis).

The lemma of Céa , which he proved in his dissertation, is named after him.

He received the Poncelet Prize in 1975 and is a member of the Academia Europaea .
