Portal Tomb from Wateresk

The Tomb of Wateresk ( Irish Uachtar Easca - also known as Slidderyford Dolmen ) is a few kilometers northeast of Newcastle , about 50 meters west of the A2 (Dundrum Road) in County Down in Northern Ireland . In the British Isles, portal tombs are megalithic systems in which two upright stones of the same height with a door stone in between form the front of a chamber, which is partly covered with a huge, sloping capstone.

The dolmen from the Neolithic (3000 to 2000 BC) consists of two bearing stones and the capstone. The remaining portal stone was sculpted to encompass the capstone. This is the peculiarity of some megaliths in County Down.

The square menhirs of Ballyloughlin are about 300 m away, on the edge of Flush Road.
