Jean Cholet

Jean Cholet (* at Nointel Castle (today in the Oise department ); † August 2, 1293 in Rome ) was a French cardinal of the Roman Church . There are various details about the date of his death.

Life

Cholet had received his doctorate in private and canon law from the University of Paris . He served as the papal legate in France. He was made cardinal by Pope Martin IV in 1281 .

He took part in the last papal election, which did not take the form of a conclave and in which Celestine V was elected Pope after two years of negotiations . His predecessor, Pope Nicholas IV , died in April 1292. In the same year riots broke out and a malaria epidemic raged in Rome , which ultimately killed Cholet. He found his final resting place in the Saint-Lucien church in Beauvais .
