The IPE 02 Nhapecan is a glider from the Brazilian manufacturer Industria Paranaense de Estruturas (IPE) .
history
In the course of the work on KW.2 Biguá , IPE was able to prove the high quality of its work. It was therefore decided to develop a new two-seater model based on the Bigua . In particular, production should be simplified and performance improved. First of all, conventional instead of negative swept wings were designed, as well as a new bow and other small details. The first flight of the new machine as IPE 02a Nhapecan was on May 24, 1979. After extensive tests, the prototype was sold and flew for many years.
construction
The IPE 02 Nhapecan was a two-seater glider with tandem seats and a closed cockpit. The hull was made of welded steel tubes and was planked with plywood. The wings consisted of a wooden structure and were covered with fabric. There was a single wheel under the fuselage. Extensive tests led to further modifications and thus to the IPE 02b Nhapecan II , which met the requirements of the Departamento de Aviação Civil , which was looking for a new high-performance glider to equip the Brazilian aero clubs. In particular, a new wing profile was used. The fuselage consisted of welded steel tubes and was covered with glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP). As in the original model, the wings were made of wood and covered with fabric. Under the hull there was a small wheel at the bow and a larger wheel in the middle. There were also structural changes and fixed ballast. After completing the modifications, the Nhapecan II went into production from 1986. A total of 80 pieces were built for the aero clubs and for the Brazilian Air Force .
The success of Nhapecan II prompted IPE to develop a much improved version in 1990, the Nhapecan III . The main differences to the previous version were new wings with a positive 2.5 ° bearing, modifications to the structure, no more ballast and the increased use of GRP parts. Only a prototype was built.
variants
- IPE 02 Nhapecan - First model in the range, only one model built.
- IPE 02b Nhapecan II - further development of the previous model, 80 of which were built for the Brazilian aero clubs , civilian buyers and the Brazilian air force.
- IPE Nhapecan III - Another revised model of which only a prototype was built.
