Jean Combot

Jean Combot (born November 19, 1928 in Saint-Pol-de-Léon ) is a former French football player .

Career

Combot was initially active as a track and field athlete in his youth before he started playing football at ES Kreisker from his hometown of Saint-Pol-de-Léon. In 1946, the defender moved to the first division club Stade Rennes UC , where his older brother Henri Combot (1921-2013) was already under contract. Jean was not intended for the professional team, but only played in the amateur team. The only exception was December 22, 1946, when the then 18-year-old was called up in a 0-1 defeat against the Stade Français and thus made his debut in the national league. In the summer of 1947 he left the club and returned to his previous club from Saint-Pol-de-Léon.

In 1948 he moved again to Rennes, where he was now intended for the first division team and thus stepped at the side of his brother; However, Henri only remained part of the team until 1949. Under coach Franz Pleyer , Jean Combot advanced to become a regular player during the 1949/50 season and was also able to score six goals himself. In view of his scoring danger, he made the change to the position of the striker for the following season . As such, he scored thirteen times in 14 games in 1950/51, but suffered serious setbacks due to injuries. Due to an injury to the cruciate ligament, the 22-year-old player was unable to return to the team, even if he was in the squad until 1953. By then he had played a total of 55 first division games with 19 goals.

After leaving Rennes, he signed with Toulouse FC and was able to play in the top division three times by 1955. From 1960 he worked as a player-coach for his former club from Saint-Pol-de-Léon and in this role helped the future national player Louis Floch to make the leap into professional football.
