Henri Combot (born October 17, 1921 in Saint-Pol-de-Léon , † May 3, 2013 in Plougastel-Daoulas ) was a French football player .

Career

Beginnings during the war (until 1945)

Combot was initially active as a track and field athlete in his youth before he started playing football at ES Kreisker from his home town of Saint-Pol-de-Léon. In 1941 the striker was signed by Stade Rennes UC ; this occurred during the Second World War in the unofficially continued first division. On September 14, 1941 he made his debut in a 4-0 away win against FC Rouen in the top division. From then on, the young player was regularly called up and often appeared as a goal scorer. With nine or eight hits in the 1941/42 and 1942/43 seasons, he was also able to secure the sympathy of the audience. When in 1943 all professional club teams lost their license and the national championship should be held by regional amateur teams, he decided against belonging to a corresponding team and instead returned to his previous club from Saint-Pol-de-Léon.

Professional career in the first post-war years (1945–1951)

In 1945, the regular hosting of the national championship was reintroduced, which caused Combot to return to the first division club from Rennes. With this he was able to establish himself again, although he did not occupy a permanent place. He was still dangerous and reached with eleven goals in the season 1946/47 his best in this regard. From 1948 on, his younger brother Jean Combot (* 1928) stood by his side as a teammate, but his most successful period had already passed and he hardly played a role during the 1948/49 season. In view of this, he left Rennes in 1949 after 56 first division games with 24 goals and an additional 35 unofficial championship games with 17 goals during the war.

Between 1949 and 1951 he continued his career at the second division US Le Mans . Subsequently, he wore the jersey of the amateur club Stade Brest for some time . Combot later did not take on another role in football and died in 2013 at the age of 91.
