Jean Kahwagi

Jean Kahwagi ( Arabic جان قهوجي, DMG Ǧān Qahwaǧī , born September 23, 1953 in Ayn Ebel , Bint Jbeil District, Nabatäa Governorate ) is a Lebanese general and from August 29, 2008 to March 8, 2017 commander of the armed forces of Lebanon .

Promotions

The Maronite Christian Jean Kahwagi joined the Lebanese armed forces as a cadet on October 1, 1973 . He was promoted to lieutenant on July 1, 1976 . On July 1, 2002, he was promoted to brigadier general and served on the staff of the armed forces. On August 29, 2008, he was promoted to general and assumed in succession of the President elected Michel Sleiman command of the armed forces of Lebanon. His term of office was provisionally extended twice. On March 8, 2017, Joseph Khalil Aoun was appointed as his successor as Commander in Chief of the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Jean Kahwagi completed military courses in the United States (1980), Sweden (1995), Italy (1999), the United Kingdom and Germany (2006).
