Jean Wallace

Jean Wallace (born October 12, 1923 in Chicago as Jean Walasek , † February 14, 1990 in Los Angeles ) was an American actress who was best known for her roles in the 1940s and 1950s.

Life

Wallace worked as a model and played in 1941 at age 17 her first role in the film Ziegfeld Girl by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). When it became known that she was two years younger than stated in her contract with MGM (19 years), the film studio terminated her contract and Wallace began engagements with Paramount Pictures that same year . There she was first mentioned by name in the credits in Louisiana Purchase .

Also in 1941 she married the actor Franchot Tone . The two had two sons. The marriage ended in divorce in 1948, with Franchot Tone having sole custody of the two sons. Jean Wallace had significant drinking problems during this period and attempted suicide in 1949. As early as 1946, she tried to kill herself with an overdose of sleeping pills. In the 1949 film Jigsaw , Wallace played her first leading role on the side of Tones. In 1950 she was briefly married to the soldier James Randall, this marriage was annulled after only five months. She also made two brief appearances in television series in the 1950s.

In 1951 she married the actor and director Cornel Wilde , with whom she starred in several film noirs from Wilde's production company Theodora. Cornel Wilde and Jean Wallace had a son. She had her last appearance in 1970 in No Blade of Grass at the side of her husband. In 1981 the couple divorced.

Jean Wallace died of gastrointestinal bleeding at the age of 66 . She is buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery .
