Jean de Cherchemont
Jean de Cherchemont († October 25, 1328 ) was Chancellor of France from 1321-1322 and 1323-1328.
Jean de Cherchemont came from a family of simple nobility from the Poitou . He was Dean of Poitiers , Treasurer of the Church in Laon and Doctor in Civil Law, and first became an adviser, then in 1316 Chancellor of Count Charles of Valois . In 1318 he became royal scribe and in 1321 finally chancellor of Philip V. His successor Charles IV replaced Jean de Cherchemont in 1322 with Pierre Rodier , but called him back when Rodier became Bishop of Carcassonne in 1323 . He died in office in 1328. After his death, his administration was exposed to harsh criticism.
Another Jean de Cherchemont was Bishop of Amiens from 1325 to 1373 .
