Yehuda ben Ascher
Jehuda ben Ascher (born June 30, 1270 in Cologne , † July 4, 1349 in Toledo ) was a Talmudist and later a rabbi in Toledo.
He was a son of Ascher ben Jechiel , with whom he later moved to Toledo. His - possibly pseudepigraphic - "testament" is an example of this independent medieval literary genre. There he describes his family history, beginning with the time of his grandfather Jechiel ben Ascher, who had to flee Germany, draws his own scholarly life, which depends on the charity of the Jewish community in Toledo, then urges his son to study certain scriptures. The text ends with his actual will.
Jehuda ben Ascher was the brother of Jakob ben Ascher .
