Live and act

Blitz's life dates are unknown. Only the place of birth Wittmund in East Friesland, which was mentioned in the writings in Amsterdam, is certain .

From the beginning of the 1670s, Blitz worked as a proofreader in the printing works of Uri Phoebus ha-Levi in Amsterdam . In 1678 he was the first to complete a complete Yiddish translation of the Hebrew Bible , with the help of Christian sponsors and endowed with a privilege from the Polish king. Its translation, however, had to be checked by the rabbis, probably because of some anti-Christian passages. which caused delays. Only a few months later a Yiddish translation of the Bible by Joseph Witzenhausen appeared .

The translation of Blitz did not go on sale until 1683, when the translation of Witzenhausen was long established. His work was published several times, there was no further edition of Blitz's translation.
